Biography
I have been creating Artwork since I was very young. I went to Ipswich Art College at the age of 17 to do a General Art and Design Course for two years. Then I studied at Bournemouth Arts and Design College doing a course in Animation for 3 years, getting a National Diploma.
Bournemouth is where I started to take sculpting seriously and I created just about any figure I could think of out of polymer clay. This is a great material that can be cooked in any household oven…. It also comes in Glow in the Dark and perhaps this is where my fascination for the Fluro took off!
After Bournemouth I received a call from Spitting Image asking me to go to London for an interview and an opportunity to join them at their studios. I helped work on an animation called Crapston Villas for Channel 4. This was a great opportunity which turned up out of the blue. So I moved to London and helped to do set design for the series, dress characters, animation and also ended up being a general handyman to the whole place.
Truth is though after that I left feeling a little disappointed, and realized that if I was going to be an animator I was going to have to spend the rest of my life locked up in dark rooms, producing about 5 seconds of work a day. There was much more of an adventurer in me than that. So I left the City and headed up to Suffolk to work with a good friend’s uncle assisting him to carve chainsaw sculptures. This was much more my kind of work and I thoroughly enjoyed helping and learning a lot about the countryside.
Aged 25 I felt inspired to travel to Australia. In Australia I discovered Tropical RAINFOREST and I can say without a doubt that this the biggest influence in my life and artwork. A truly precious place that pointed me towards being a painter and a full time artist. It is my favorite subject to paint by far.....
I travelled and lived in Australia for about 5 years and there I found the space to be able to spend all my time on Artwork and developed the idea of my Fluorescent style. I was able to take time to paint which up until then I had never done before. I really enjoyed my travelling and plan to visit as many Rainforests as I can in the next few years to help preserve them and create murals for charities which do exactly that.
I have been back in the UK for about 2 ½ years now. I have travelled up and down this beautiful country side in my Bio-diesel Van, developing links and contacts.
I have been on Grand Designs the Channel 4 television show this year. I travelled to the Riviera last year to do a painting for Microsoft at one of their corporate gigs. During the summer months I created Mural Paintings at some music festivals and I am also developing an exhibition which will be shown In Dubai next year.
I hope you like what you have seen here and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have a project you are thinking of. I always love a challenge and if you want art with the wow factor then look no further.
Kind regards
Simon Buck
